So This is What Our Society is Watching

By Kendra Holliday | February 7, 2013

I don’t have a television, but my friends do, and one of them clued me in to this sex-negative but cute Super Bowl commercial:

My blood boiled watching this!

If parents feel unable to have honest conversations with their children, then they shouldn’t have them.

It’s critical that we respect our children and raise them in a sex-positive environment.

Thing is…It’s really not any stupider than the majority of all other advertising. All advertising makes my blood boil. Writing about advertising sends my blood pressure up. Fuck this whole thing. Arrrrgh!

Eh, I wouldn’t take this seriously enough to have my ‘blood boil’ it clearly has sperm/egg symbolism and a lot of sexual innuendo to it. I’d also be careful labeling it ‘sex-negative’. It’s more like sex-idiotic.

How stupid. It assumes so much uptightness on the part of the viewer. Plus the weird rocketing through space stuff sounds a lot more terrifying than the real thing!

I don’t know… I thought it was funny. It’s the kind of answer my dad or grandpa would have given and I found them very amusing. I agree, though, that parents should speak openly with their children about most of life’s issues (sex, drugs, why Springsteen is so much better than every other musician). It’s just a commercial. The one that annoyed me was the “Farmer” ad. Oh… don’t get me wrong, I love Paul Harvey and that quote was so poetic. The ad was an ode to America the Beautiful, except… not really. More like what America was like 40 years ago. Funny or Die did a good spoof, but farms these days are factories with Mexican labor. They were selling a fucking truck. It wasn’t all bad, though. The Budweiser clydesdale one had me in tears and Pornhub actually had a sweet (yes, sweet) ad that was “banned” (translation: never had a chance).

The product has absolutely nothing to do with the content in the commercial. WTF
