Tips for a Yummy Mouth

Going places!

SMILE!

Psssst.

Do you want to know if you have bad breath?

Ask someone. Ask me!

Or, try this:

1. Grab some floss. If you don’t have easy access to any, you have bad breath FOR SURE.

2. Floss a few of your teeth.

3. Sniff the floss. This is what your breath smells like.

Any food that is caught between your teeth and left there simply rots, right in your face. That’s why it’s important to floss daily – you don’t want a graveyard in your mouth. Rotty, fetid bacteria is bad news.

The reason why I’m posting this is because I run a sex worker group, and one of the most common complaints I hear from the women (besides clients being cheap or disrespectful) are clients with bad breath. It’s really hard to give the Girlfriend Experience when your partner has stinky breath. 🙁

Conversely, I was at a Whore Happy Hour and one of the men complimented me on my teeth, saying the women he knew were sweet, but many had stale mouths and smoked. No doubt my nice smile is a good selling point, if you will.

SO, if you want others to enjoy kissing you, here are some easy tips on keeping your breath fresh n’ clean:

1. Brush your teeth twice a day. This is also good for your gums.

2. Floss daily. As they say, you only have to floss the teeth you want to keep! Glide is a good brand if you have crowded teeth and normal floss shreds. After flossing, rinse with water.

3. Tongue scraping is good. You can buy a scraper, but I just use a spoon every couple days or so (people sometimes ask why I keep a spoon in my bathroom, ha!) It’s crazy what can accumulate on the back of your tongue, it gets all thick and white, eww!

4. Listerine may actually do more harm than good because it contains alcohol and dries the mouth, which the bacteria tend to like. I use SmartMouth, it’s great! It shorts out the bacteria’s ability to breakdown and produce sulphides in your mouth.

5. Keep the mouth moist (god I hate that word) with sugar-free gum or mints. I chew gum ten minutes before a date.

6. Avoid coffee or smoking, but if you do indulge, rinse with water or brush your teeth/pop a mint afterward.

7. HYDRATE. Drink lots of water.

8. Eat more fruits and veggies, less meat. High protein diets are the worst for creating bad bacteria fumes as it decomposes.

9. Go to the dentist for routine cleaning twice a year. I don’t have dental insurance, but I still make this happen. A cleaning costs me about $150. Consider it skull maintenance. If you’re scared of dentists, ask around for recommendations. There are lots of nice dentists out there!

You can read more about halitosis here. And if you have tonsil stones lodged in your tonsil crypts, I don’t know what to tell you. Anything beyond the back of the tongue freaks me out!

Do you have any fresh breath tips or bad breath horror stories to share? If you had bad breath, would you want someone to tell you?

I have little ridges on the back of my toothbrush the make a great tongue scraper.
My dentist advised drinking water with coffee (because I drink it A LOT!) but said brushing right after coffee /might hurt the teeth, and its better to wait a little while after drinking. So I try to balance my coffee with water and carry gum when I can. The water is a great tip, too! I try to brush my teeth early in the evening because otherwise I get really tired. I also think of it as a good way to avoid temptation from midnight snacks. Great tips.

*High protein diets are the worst for creating bad bacteria fumes as it decomposes.*

I read recently that there are these gut bacteria that feed off whatever you normally eat that trigger your neurotransmitters to make you crave certain foods. The theory is that a craving is the gut bacteria saying, “FEEEED MEEEEE…” The topic was how, after you start eating healthier, you don’t crave crappy food after a while because the gut bacteria have been killed off. Bit of a ramble, I guess, but I thought it was interesting.

I can smell tooth decay as soon as a person is within arm’s reach. It’s gross. I always have breath mints with me because I am paranoid about having bad breath and I know the medication I am on can give me a dry mouth which can lead to bad breath. Coffee breath is disgusting, it’s as bad as smoker’s breath. I think some people are just oblivious to how revolting bad breath actually is.

Even easier- I brush my tongue twice a day after I finish my teeth. Does the job no problems!

Beware of the tonsil stones. If you don’t know what that is look it up. Kissing is passionate. I can feel it in my toes. Bad breath is the death of the kiss and a big downer. Floss!! Daily!! Lick the back of your hand, let it dry and smell, that’s your breath!

Do you just run the sex workers group or do you participate yourself as well?

This kind of post is another reason I like you so! I would have never thought to trade in my scraper for a spoon, or to grow mint in the yard for such a reason. Kendra, thank you for your awesomeness!
